JVC Summer

Do something different with your summer…

For four weeks in August you can try out community living, gain work experience with inner city projects that help marginalised people, explore spirituality, experiment with a simpler way of life - and meet people who share your values and concerns.

Who’s the Summer Programme for?

It’s for people aged 18 - 35 who are looking for an alternative way to spend their summer, whether they have just finished school or college, are between semesters or jobs, want to spend a longer break from work in a valuable and unusual way, or gain experience for a career change - or simply want to find out what JVC life is like. The Summer Programme is designed for those who cannot commit to a JVC Year Programme right now but would like spend some time volunteering with us. Many Summer volunteers come back to JVC for the full year later.

What would I do as a Summer Programme volunteer?

The Summer Programme provides a short taster of the JVC experience - so make sure you’ve seen our Gap Year page - with some differences.

You’d spend two evenings a week with a Community Partner, covering some aspects of the Development Programme. You don’t have the responsibility of budgetting for and paying bills, as JVC pays these direct during the summer. Because of this, the allowance is proportionally lower than for the Gap Year Programme - currently £30 / week.

The Summer Programme is designed to provide not only a solid introduction to JVC but also ways of exploring each of the JVC values. In the Induction weekend and the sessions with the Community Partner, there are introductions to themes of social justice and social teaching, why and how to live simply, finding meaning in the community experience and exploring Ignatian Spirituality.

JVC’s Summer Programme 2012 runs from Saturday 28th July to Friday 24th August 2012.
