Volunteers’ Stories
Here are some of the things recent volunteers said about their JVC experience:
“I gained a new appreciation of the lives of the oppressed and vulnerable in society. I hope to act on this in my future career.”
Christopher: Summer Programme 2009
“ I had a church placement and a placement with asylum seekers. I am now the assistant chaplain at Hope University in Liverpool and am having the most amazing time. I feel that the JVC year was the ideal stepping stone from my theology degree into the world of work. It has equipped me with a year’s experience that was essential in getting my current job.”
Michael: JVC Gap Year Programme 2008-9
“My advice for people considering the Summer Programme is to absolutely go for it! Iʼve met some lovely people and had a great experience.”
Natalie: Summer Programme 2009
“Compared to my friends, I earned less and spent less, but I had by far the richer experience. If I had applied for this job straight out of university, I would not have got it: it was the year’s experience that made the difference, and it also convinced me it was the right choice.”
Tom: JVC Gap Year Programme 2007-8, found work as a press officer with a national refugee charity.
“I worked in British schools with children from many different countries and cultures. To get to know people from so many different parts of the
earth has been a great pleasure.”
Jonatan: JVC Gap Year Programme 2008-9
“God has become more real to me as I saw him working in the practical charity of feeding and clothing the homeless.”
Edmund: Summer Programme 2009
